1.  Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • A clean driving record is required.
  • Education or experience options include: 48 college credit hours, military service, or two years of experience as a sworn officer, firefighter, EMT/paramedic, or similar role.

2.  Testing Process

The hiring process includes:

  • Civil Service Exam: A written test covering reasoning, reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, and memory.
  • Physical Fitness Test:
    • 1.5-mile run
    • 300-meter sprint
    • Push-ups
    • Sit-ups
  • Additional Steps: Panel interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph, medical exam, and drug screening.
  • Academy Training: Non-certified applicants will complete the Grand Prairie Police Academy, followed by 17 weeks of field training.

3.  Documentation

Applicants should bring their Personal History Statement (PHS) and documents such as a birth certificate, driver’s license, Social Security card, college transcripts, and military discharge forms if applicable.
Military applicants with honorable discharge may receive bonus points on the written test.
